Sticky Ideas

In order for ideas to resonate in people's minds, they need to follow the mnemonic SUCCESs. Clever isn't it?

SUCCESs is a mnemonic for making your ideas sticky, stolen from the book Made to Stick by Dan and Chip Heath.

It outlines six basics that help ideas resonate, stay memorable, and inspire action:

  • Simple: Get to the Core. Strip your idea down to its core, making it easy to understand and remember.

  • Unexpected: Grab Attention. Capture attention by surprising your audience or breaking their expectations.

  • Concrete: Make it Real. Use vivid, tangible details to make your idea real and relatable.

  • Credible: Create Trust. Build trust by including authority, data, or real-world examples.

  • Emotional: Make people care. Tap into emotions to make your message resonate on a deeper level.

  • Stories: Inspire Energy. Use storytelling to create connection and drive engagement.

The best ideas incorporate these basic principles, and it's a very useful checklist for evaluating what you are hoping to convey.
